Hahaha, I did have a rather unpleasent go with my first son - 30+ hours of labour and ALL the unplesantness that goes with that (I had him with the midwives nearly at home - wich would have been awesome but we had to go into the hospital in the end), and I really did not want to know about the tearing ect and did not care at the time! "Just get him out for the love of all that is sacred and holy!!!" Hopefully this time will be easier.
Merry can be a bit heavy on the bit, but she is not hard mouthed if that makes sence. She only requires a gentle snaffle (I did not try the "natural hackamore" with her like I did with Jeanne) and steers well and has go as well as whoa. She likes to be challenged and I found that to be my best defence against cheekyness with her. As soon as you climb aboard get her thinking - serpentines and 20m circles only work for a few minutes. But things like leg yeilding and turn on the forehand ect get her working nicely.
She has tended to give new objects the hairy-eyeball on occasion. Not really sure if it was legitimate spookyness (she is not really the spooky type) or just another of her fun games she likes to try. As you get to know her you will learn what sets her off and be able to plan ahead. The worst she has ever really done is the lovely sideways trot away from the offending object - not the scary jump to the side like some do, no she goes for a full-on look at the object and smoothly trot sideways away from it, with my coach told me to go with and make it my idea, and continue in that trot half way around the arena. Works like magic!
She really is a sweet girl, but not really a beginners mount because of her personality - although my husband rode her and enjoyed it ( and a cowboy he aint!). Just be the smarter of the two of you and really you will have a blast with her! She is lovely and wicked fun.
Anyways, talk to you later, It is so great to hear from you!

I totally understand your hesitation in riding Miss Pushy-pants. Trust me though, she is a diffrent horse under saddle. She is responsive and respectful. Her canter is to die for, trot is showy, but a bit bouncy. It is very hard to sit her trot! She knows her commands and will respond to voice commands too.
I had done the "Parelli Horsanality profile" on her, and she best fit the LB introvert - cheeky and smart. She knows exactly what she is doing and what you are asking, but will decide in her own time if she is going to do it. She is something else!
And unfortunately no, the only picture of me riding is the one of me and Merry actually. The others are Rev's trainer Val (before I bought her) and the young lady that is currently leasing her Emily. I had to lease her out because of my "condition" and I did not want her to lose the training she had. She is doing great though, already in the ribbons at the hunter shows!
Talk to you soon,
B

Hi Trista!
I am so glad Merry is doing so well. I wonder if the snow and cool weather perhaps feels good on her sore hock and is helping with the inflamation. It never had been overly obvious she was off unless you had a good look at her - she was never "dead lame".
I always loved that feature of the white hairs in her mane too - and if you split her tail it is white in the center as well. She truely is a horse of another colour!
Don't feel nervous about riding her! She is amazing to ride and really quite easy. I guarantee she will not buck or rear or any of that funny business. She is alot of fun. And I think she would look gorgous infront of a buggy of some kind too. That had always been one of my dreams with her as well.
Anyways, I am glad she is doing so well. I am anxious to see what she gives you this spring! Keep in touch, and enjoy the rest of winter!

Hi Trista,
Just noticed you sold Celina. Congrats on the sale, she looked gorgous in the photos!
Just wanted to check in and see how Merry is doing and how pregnancy is treating her. I know she will be a fantastic Mom. I myself am due to burst on Feb 18th and feel like a baluga.
Hope you are well! Please give Merry a kiss for me and tell her that I miss her very much!
Talk to you soon,
Beth

Hi Trista!
Just wondering how the big black hairy one is doing, and how she is enjoying her new role in life. Is her hock really sore?
Please tell her the I miss her and give her a scratch under the chin for me!
