Hi Summer,
What a great farm you have and what an awesome job you guys are doing to improve it. Thank you so much for showing me around - I am so impressed with what you are doing. You have clearly spent a lot of money and many many man-hours to get things right from the start. While the rest of us are wallowing around in mud, your guys will be clean and dry! Plus, it is just the most perfect setting.
I am sorry that Prince is not for Sue. I'm not sure exactly what it is she is looking for, but she believes that she will know when she sees it! Prince is wonderful, he has the kindest face and is clearly a very trustworthy fellow. It would be so great if a young rider got him and they could grow together. I did float it past the mother of such a rider today. I knew it was a long-shot since the finances involved in boarding and owning a horse are beyond them. Sensibly they are going to take a half lease on a horse boarded with her trainer - can't argue with that unfortunately. I really hope that he finds a good home with someone that you like. He is a rare gem and it would be very easy to fall in love with him. Thank you to both you and your trainer for showing him to us - wish we could have seen more, but Sue was right to call a halt since she had made up her mind. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Hi Summer,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have given your number to Sue. She will definitely give you a call. If she is interested, I hope you organize a time that I can be there - would love to meet you and snoop around your gorgeous farm......
Clare
Summer,
I just spoke to my friend Sue and she is actively looking. Her husband has given her money for a new horse - lucky her! She is very interested in Canadiens having worked extensively with Morgans. She is a very experienced horsewoman, who has had her shire cross since he was 3. I think he is in his late teens now. Bentley (her horse) is one of those amazing horses that have no vices, is a lovely person on the ground etc etc. Sue used to take him in Hunter Paces and they won lots of the local stuff. Bentley is now beyond riding (can't remember what his specific issues are) and Sue is finding it really hard to find a horse that she believes will be able to step into his shoes - personality on the ground is really important to her. Her horses (she currently has one boarder) have the absolute best. I thought my barn was fairly tidy until I saw hers - totally spotless (quite scary actually!). If you are serious about finding a new home for Prince, I personally recommend Sue. If she were interested, he would have only the best, and it is not too far for you to visit!
Hope all is well with you
Clare
Summer,
I'll definitely let you know about Steep Rock - haven't given it any thought yet. Just returned from 2 weeks annual pilgrimage to visit relatives in England - boy it's GOOD to be back in the USA! Got to get to grips with the girls going back to school, but Steep Rock would be awesome in fall............. How tall is Prince? do you have any good confirmation photos? I have a friend who might be interested, she is very hard to please, since her retired horse is an absolute gem, but a lease to own option might be enough to pique her interest. Sorry that life has conspired to make you feel you have to part with him - it must have been a very tough decision
Hi Summer - yes now I do remember you and Finn. Now Cezar and I are in Enfield NH on our little farm , Enfield is not that far from Killington VT - just accross on Rte 4.
I'm finally getting comfortable up here and there are several very nice facilities that host schooling events. Cezar loves having his own pastures and being spoiled to death . He has really benefited from a daily massage of his right side - that has always been his off side since I got him as a three y/o and now he is 91/2 already. I really have to watch his weight though - the grass is staying green with all the rain and I am limiting his hay too ( I keep him in a paddock when I am at work and at night) I love having him at home even if it is alot of work and I can't go anywhere - it's worth it.
So great to hear from you - maybe I'll see you at an event somewhere. Enjoy the weekend and thank you for writing.
I do believe I have met her Dan yes - there is a woman at Cindys who has a canadian as well.
I love steep rock! Have a great time. Are there any organized rides that are established on here where everyone brings their canadian?
Calre thanks for the info on riding prego. haha I don't have to be concerned about that for a while still yet but glad to hear that, very glad! 4 horses, yikes that is alot - your kids ride too and help out I hope. haha
Funny - that is exactly how I got my second Canadian Prince... Told my husband I would train him as he was 3 when I got him and be able to get good money for him... LOL I decided not to sell him anymore because he turned out way to good and now he is just part of the farm so. haha
Not sure if I met Laurel - there were 2 woman who would come to some of the clinics with connamaras so not sure - I am horrible with remebering names. If you see her ask her if she remembers a girl named summer.
Summer,
Kate Anthony boarded at Fraizer Farm with a BIG canadian gelding named Fuzzy. He's black with 1 hind sock. Long forelock, but they pulled his mane. She does dressage and eventing with him. I see her quite often and told her about the site. She boards in North Salem, N.Y. now, closer to home for her. She rode with Sara for many years.
FYI; We're going to Steeprock Park, Washigton, Ct. on Sunday 8/2. It' s a great place to trail ride and swim with your horse on a warm day.
Cindy also recognized Merlin as aCheval when we were there a month ago
Oh Summer - yes you flipping well can ride!!!! I have two girls aged 7 and 9 and rode into my third trimester with both. I finally gave up, when even the thought of heaving myself into the saddle became too exhausting. When I was pregnant, perceived wisdom had it that it was OK to keep doing something, but not to start something new. I am sure that is not the case if you have a troublesome pregnancy, but despite being considered geriatric and therefore higher risk, my doctor clearly decided from the look on my face that it would be less stressful if I kept on riding!
I have somehow managed to acquire 4 horses. I don't think I really planned it, it just happened. I have my old TB who is now very stiff and is retired. I bought my first Canadien before my TB really deteriorated, to keep him company and to be a family horse (for which she is ideally suited). However, I was feeling the lack of a dressage horse, which Ahjay had been, so I bought Tip as a baby. Then I found Pulsar for sale - just ground broke and in Pennsylvania and it was just too tempting! I told Peter that I would train him and sell him............not sure he believed me even then! So now I have 4 and I DO wish there were more hours in the day. Like you my, my parents think I am crazy and constantly ask why I need 4 horses. My mother and I have few shared interests besides my girls and she clearly thinks I should spend more time in the spa and less time jumping up and down on the muck heap!
Did you ever run into a girl named Laurel Speed at Fraizer. She owns a connemara pony called Hermione and trains with Sarah? She baby sits my girls when I have a lesson and cleans my barn when I am away.
Somehow, you will find the time to fit everything in and babies do grow up and become more independent - way too fast! I love your pictures and your farm is to die for!
I used to ride at Fraizer very often. Trained with Sarah Dalton over there for a few years - There is another woman at Sarah's who has a beautiful gelding canadian, nice woman. Next time I run into her I will tell her about the site - could have been her as well.
When I was at the NBLA event Cindy recognized my horse as a canadian right away and I was totally impressed - most people ask what kind of horse is that, "does she have morgan in her or friesian" lol as I am sure you have experienced with these guys.
Work and farm life is definitly a challenge... we don't have kids yet so I am sure that helps, but are planning on it in the near future - I can't see how it is all going to fit but we'll just go with it and see what happens. You have to love it is all I can say - our families think we are nuts haha spending early AM and very late nights outside. It is difficult but I hold back to the best of my ability not to become a "collector" LOL with the land it would be easy to, but I am insistent upon giving them the attention they deserve and it would be impossible to do that with owning more than 2.
If you find out who the woman with a team of 6 is or get in touch with her please let me know - I would LOVE to see them hooked up!
Do you have children if so - do you know if you can ride even just a little while pregnant (i'm guessing it is not a good idea...that is going to be very difficult for me when the time comes...ugh)
LOL
NIce talking with you Clare.
Best
Summer
I've been a little remiss in not following her up. Should have pursued the contact and introduced her to this site.
A dressage judge, who is a friend had mentioned that a Canadien did a lovely test for her at Frazier Farm in Woodbury. She was so impressed that she asked what kind of horse it was. On the basis that she coaches my neighbor and I (both avid Canadien owners), I might have hoped that she would have recognized a Canadien! (clearly, our abilities are so meagre by comparison, she was unable recognize the same breed) - was that, by chance you? or do you have any idea who it might be? There are quite a few Canadiens around here. I know there is a lady in Woodbury with a team, I think, of 6, but I have never met her. I keep meaning to contact her and ask if I can possibly come and watch when she next hitches her team.
Wow 30 acres! I am so envious - I am spoiled rotten with everything that I have, but always want a little more land. However, I would only find more four-footed friends to inhabit it! How on earth do you cope with everything you have at home and work full time????
