In reference to Susan's post about the incorrect listing of Moses I had that problem when I registered for a USDF show at GMHA. When I called the show secretary to correct another error that was made in my registration (they entered me in the wrong…

In light of the earlier posts, it occurs to me that there are many people on this chat who have a variety of ways to ensure they and their horses are ready for showing, both physically and experiencially. I have shown at only 1 show this year for b…

All our horses are barefoot right now... however: Tim is starting to drive Junior and Hailey as a pair on the roads to get some miles on them before we do an overnight drive with them later this summer. Driving on the roads , working up to 20 KM/ da…

How Many Canadians Do you Own?
3 - 5
What's your favorite thing to do with your Canadian horse(s)?
Driving, hunter-jumper, trail riding
What activities and/or disciplines do you participate in with your Canadian(s)?
Driving, riding. We also operate a Bed & Bale on the edge of the Ganaraska Forest in Central Ontario. We meet many horse owners who want to ride and drive in the forest .We have also bred and shown some very nice horses. Our mare Hailey has been shown exxtensively and , having been successfuly shown in harness, she started her hunter-jumper show carreer last summer and we hope to continue showing her this year. As well, we bred an exceptional colt from the legendary Lou-Heros, Reprise who has had a tremendous show record. He is now started under saddle and hows promise. Of course, both my husband Tim, and I drive and try to work all our horses regularly. We are forutante to live on the edges of some beautiful trails. We would invite anyone who is in the area or who plans a trip to this area, to visit and see our lovely horses.

Hi Frances.

Thank you.

Yes I love that picture. The grouse had claimed the round pen as his. He tried his best to chase everybody out. Very comical. He made it through one of our worst winters ever and then disappeared the following year.

That's Ranch-L Nava Lidia. She's a perfect jewel. Some say she's smarter than I am but don't listen to them :)

Yes, Estee certainly has that brown nose! She's in pics 7 and 10 in my album. Fanny has that nose too, but she has it on both parent's sides.

I've heard wonderful things about Marco-Pat offspring. I remember contacting Trista Rowe a couple of years ago when she had her two "s" foals for sale (I wasn't looking for a foal, but had some questions for her about another horse she had for sale at the time), and she was telling me how wonderful those two foals were. She has more by Marco-Pat and they sound great too.

I had full intentions of buying a purebred Canadian Horse when I started to seriously look for a horse a couple of years ago, and visited a couple of older mares, yet all roads seemed to lead me back to the breeder who had Fanny for sale (the breeder raises both Canadians and Newfoundland Ponies). I found out later that one of the older mares that I went to see was Fanny's great-grandmother!! I would still like to get a purebred Canadian someday, but for now I am perfectly content with one horse :o) Unless, of course, the right one came along at the right time... :o)

I have had Duke for over 6 years now, Sue had quite a few Canadians she was bringing along when she had Caesar, she sold Duke just before Caesar. I am located in the seacoast area of Southern NH. You would love the winter season in FL, its a great group of drivers and a super opportunity to learn. Someone has to win the lottery, why not us!

Frances, you may know Duke when he belonged to Sue Mott - he was a stable buddy of Caesar's. His name is Du Coteau LaLou Echo, trained to drive, at one time when Sue was going to do pairs, possibly to pair with Casear. You are welcome down here as well if you need a stop over on your way to any of the southern state CDE shows.

Hi Frances. Did I tell you that yes we have alot of trails here and no i have not been riding for nearly a month!! I am in an area that gets alot of ice and my horse isn't shod and well, honestly, i don't like the cold.
I am considering moving him to a boarding facility with arena and coacing and yet even that i hesitate about because he seems to have finally calmed down . I think i put way too much misdirected energy into what i imagine he wants instead of treating him just like a horse afterall.

Preston is already 16.1 hh.! Yikes, another inch between 4-5 you say!!!!
Oh well....his grandfather Tonka Wonka was a big boy (not used often as a stud-chestnut, hence the dark bay.)

If I am ever down your way I would LOVE to stop in.
Thankyou....

Your photos are beautiful...I hope to add more soon. Take care.

Hi Frances! Thank you for you nice welcome. I have owned Preston since July 1rst...had him in training for two months and brought him to my stable Sept.1rst. He turned "4" this past June and is still growing!
I fell in love with Canadians when I rode a mare and my back didn't hurt, what a cadillac ride! I always loved a "well built" horse and I lost my last horse to navicular disease (long & sad story)...so I wanted solid, BIG FEET.

I have my hands full with him, we were out for a trail ride today and met up with a partridge (the horse eating kind!) I find him a little spooky but with work and patience we will get there. HE LOVES TO JUMP! He has the makings of a hunter jumper., cross country boy...

His best trait is his loving personality...my heart soars when he gallops down the pasture to meet me at the fence. What an amazing breed, I feel priveledged to own him. :)

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I'm not sure if I have the CHBA hand book - I don't remember receiving it. Dan is located in Ridgefield Connecticut. He would not travel to Canada, but has said that he would purchase unseen on the basis of photos, video, history and assurance of temperament and attitude. He only wants to drive for fun. Thank you Frances for trying to help! Not sure about the mare thing - I really don't know why some people are so prejudiced against them. I have two and they are awesome, but I know many people will not even consider them....

Frances,
Iondered if you might be able to point me in the right direction. One of our local tack shops is run by a wonderful man named Dan. I guess he is in his late 50s and has suffered a debilitating stroke. Walking is hard for him, so riding is not an option, but driving is. He is an experienced driver, but again, is limited by his disability. He has long been interested in Canadians and is always interested in what we have been up to. He has been looking for a morgan driving horse, but would definitely be interested in a Canadian. He would like a gelding at least 15HH, preferably black and more on the refined side. However, the most important thing would be training and temperament. He really needs the horse to be quiet under 'all' circumstances. I know it is a tall order and he has checked out Jody's site. I just thought being a driving person, you might know of someone who might be thinking of selling.

I would love to help him if I could - he is the nicest man - always going out of his way to help people. Plus, it is a prestigious tack shop in the area and having the boss own a Canadian wouldn't do any harm!!!

Let me know if you can think of anyone
Thanks Clare
