Saving Black Coats from Summer Fade

Short of locking my two black geldings inside during the day, can anyone recommend any products that prevent summer fade? The boys are slowly turning brown across their flanks, faces, and elbows. Sheets are not an option as they love to play tug on each other's clothing and halters. The sunflower sunscreen spray I have been using does not seem to work. Absorbine Ultrashield is supposed to have a sunscreen in it. I'm using another Absorbine bug spray but will switch and give the Ultrashield a try. I tried the Blackenall supplement last year but that that did nothing either. Otherwise their coats are in excellent condition. Will their winter coats come in black or is this sun damage permanent? I'll try one of the blackening shampoos if it ever stops raining or warms up enough here in central NY to give them a good bath. Thanks for any suggestions!
