Canadian Classes included at Friesian Show during Topsfield Fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok everyone, I have gone out on a limb again for this breed. The friesian club has agreed to include Canadian Classes at the show at topsfield fair even after out EXTREMELY POOR showing of Canadians at their usual show. This will be our chance to redeem ourselve. If your not ready to show - GET READY!!!!
We are running the risk of losing our classes at their show next year. We had horrible low number of candians at the show, like 9. It seems that the regular people who have supported the show from the beginning showed up, and thank you to everyone who came, but no new supporteres. everyone talks about wanting classes, which we have managed to get but the only way to keep them is to get good numbers in them. So PLEASE come out and support this breed. I know money is tight but PLEASE save a bit (the show is a couple months away) and come out and support the friesian club and say thank you for giving us a chance

HI Sandy,
I am sorry to hear you had a "terrible time" at our show the one time you came. If I recall the year you came to the show you brought a stalliion in desperate need of manners. I saw him many times on his hind legs and the handler had no control oh him in the show ring. It was unfortunate at that show we had torential rain & lightening that took out the lights for a few minutes but with in 5 minutes the lights were back on and ths show was back to order. Inregards to your surpise invoice the show book has all the prices listed in it when you entered and when you checked out they would have given you a bill to look over. I have to wonder was the surprise invoice a fee missing on you bill that we should have billed you and caught it after you checked out. There are no surpise fees at our horse shows. Exactly what is in the show book for fees is what we charge. You said you will stick to the smaller shows and it sounds like that is where you comfort zone financially and in your equine training ability. I am sorry you did not enjoy our venue and hope you find some that fits your needs.

I was extremely disturbed by the tone of this comment. I do not know either of the parties involved, so this is in no way personal. All I know is that someone expressed disappointment in their experience, and in return, her horse and her "training ability" were insulted in a public forum. I thought this website's purpose was to provide a forum for the useful exchange of advice and information, not to take petty jabs at one another. If you have a real problem with someone, send an e-mail to them directly. Remember, this is a public forum, and we need to be careful about the kind of impression we leave. I have a young, green mare whom I've been encouraged to show, but after seeing this exchange, I've decided to give it a pass. You never know how any animal will react when exposed to something for the first time, and no amount of schooling can prepare you for something unexpected like a violent thunderstorm. To have an unpleasant experience like that, and then get berated in a such a public way is beyond insulting. Quite frankly, this is the kind of thing I long ago came to expect in the show worlds of other major breeds. Ours is an association far too small, with too few opportunities to show our horses together, for this kind of behavior. I thought we were better than that.

You are right this was insulting to every person who volunteers endless hours at this show and for someone to send a message out to your members that she would never attend again and implied we surprised her with an invoice is unaccetable. And yes I did questions her training ability because that is partly why she had such a bad time. You are absoloutely correct when you say you never know how an animal will react when exposed to something for the first time. The problem that you obviously are not aware of, if this was that horses first time ever at a show then "my opinion" would be to bring this horse to a few smaller shows to get the show expierence. And if you dont have the money to do that then you can do what many of us do and we bring our horses to shows we dont even enter or show at and lead or ride our horse around at the show grounds so they learn what is to be expected for behavior at a show. Then when you pick the show or shows you want to attend you have set your horse up to succeed and be the best they can be and the bouns is you most likely wont disrupt the other people who have entered in your class with a well mannered prepared and happy horse. That is great to hear you were considering our show and you made a wise decision to not to come because as you said you have a green horse and a horse show at a Fair is alot to ask of a green or young horse. Unfortunately though you didnt think about your horse in that comment you said you arent coming because of my tone and how insultuing I was. Well I to was insulted by some one who publically put a negative tone on this show and all we have ever tried to do was give the Canadian breed a venue to succeed in the states. Maybe you arent aware that your breed is on the endangered list and we are the only show in the US that holds Canadian breed classes. Sandy is entitled to her opinion but to make statement that we surprised her with an invoice to give the illusion you may receive another bill from us that wasnt expected was wrong. She could be part of the solution and try not discourage people from going but help them from her expierence and how to prepare a young horse for a show of this kind.

Thank you Sue for trailering Jammy to the show. We had a blast. I hope to be ready to join you in the canter classes next year (if they invite us again), instead of being stuck in W/T hell.

We had a great time.

Thank you again.

Terri, Thank you for inviting us, and thanks for lending me your leather lead for the "in-hand" class. We had a great time. Even my mother enjoyed the show.

I hope to see you again, in the spring.
